As Heard On...

Columbia, Md and the DMV Neuropathy Treatment
From The Desk Of Dr. Michael Williamson...

Over the past 7 years I've had the privilege of helping hundreds of patients all across the DMV with their peripheral neuropathy.

The KEY is to DIG for the root cause! In our clinic we have a saying... "We Don't Guess...We TEST!"

We look at FOODS! We look at NUTRIENTS! We look at TOXICITIES! We don't have a one size fits all cookie cutter approach.

We also utilize a combination of Ozone Therapy, Acupressure, Infrared Light Therapy, PEMF Therapy and Shockwave Therapy to address your pain!

This is what separates us from other clinics out there. Most will simply throw a medication at the symptoms. We come at things from a NATURAL approach!

What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is a disease that can damage nerves in the feet and prevent them from working properly. It is commonly caused by diabetes or injury.

Some causes include arthritis, vitamin deficiencies (which is why we test), blood vessel disease, and certain infections. Damaged nerves may cause changes in sensation, including numbness. This can make you more likely to injure your feet without knowing it.

Over time, neuropathy can lead to permanent loss of nerve function, as well as bone and joint damage.
What Causes Peripheral Neuropathy?
  • Diabetes
  •  Glucose Intolerance
  •  Vitamin Deficiencies or Toxicity (this is why we TEST)
  •  Surgeries
  •  Celiac Disease
  •  Alcohol Abuse
  •  Immune System Dysfunction
  •  Vasculitis
  •  Bacterial Infections
  •  Virus Infections
  • Lyme disease
  •  Cancer
  •  Chemotherapy & Radiation Treatments
  •  Thyroid Disease
  •  Hereditary / Genetic Disorders
  •  Toxins
  •  Chemicals
  •  Drug Abuse
  •  Trauma / Compression To The Nerves of the Upper or Lower Body
  •  Idiopathic Neuropathy (unknown causes)
These Are The Most Common Symptoms Of Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Numbness In Legs & Feet
  • Burning Sensation In Legs
  •  Itchy legs
  • Sleeping Problems Due To Burning Legs
  • Pain, Numbness, or Tingling In The Affected area
  • Tingling Hands, Fingers, or Feet - “pins and needles”
  • Blisters or Calluses
  •  Slow Reflexes
  •  Muscle Weakness or Poor Balance
  •  Coordination Problems
  •  Difficulties With Walking
  •  Sensitivity to Pain
How Are We Different?
As mentioned above, we're going to dig to find the root cause. Each patient is unique and we need to explore to find the root cause.

We may look at food sensitivities / intolerances to reduce inflammation.

We may check for vitamin / nutrient deficiencies.
We may look at thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4, TPO etc.).

We utilize our unique combination of Ozone Therapy, Acupressure, Infrared Light Therapy, PEMF Therapy and Shockwave Therapy to address your pain!

Again, once we determine the ROOT CAUSE of the peripheral neuropathy...THEN we can determine the best NATURAL plan of attack moving forward.
Peptide Bioregulators
What is a peptide bioregulator?

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids, identified by the fact that it is shorter than a protein, and so can be absorbed easily via the digestive system. Each organ or bodily function has its own unique peptide bioregulator. Peptide bioregulators have been shown to shortcut the protein synthesis process by interacting directly with cell DNA – meaning that organs can build and repair tissues easier and quicker when peptide bioregulators are active. In other words, peptides do not treat, they promote the natural repair of damaged organs.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy is a new non-invasive solution for musculoskeletal and neuropathy pain. The extracorporeal shockwave therapy is frequently used in physiotherapy, orthopedics and sports medicine.

Shockwave Therapy uses high-frequency sound waves that are applied to the damaged area to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and speed the healing of damaged nerves. There really is nothing like it. Some patients have found relief after years of pain where nothing else has helped!
Acupressure
Acupressure target specific places called pressure points on your body. Acupressure relaxes pained muscles by stimulating certain trigger points on your body. This pressure may help to relieve the tingling, burning, or “prickly” feelings in the body that are associated with neuropathic pain. It may also help with other symptoms, like dull pain or stiffness.  There is evidence that acupressure may release a type of molecule called opioid peptides in your brain. These molecules have a pain-relieving effect, almost like ‘natural narcotics.’ Other studies even show that acupressure may help your immune system.
Infrared Light Therapy
Infrared Light Therapy is an FDA-cleared therapy that increases local circulation, which increases your body’s ability to provide the essential nutrients needed by your cells to function properly. Infrared light therapy pads are applied directly to the skin and are used to temporarily promote increased circulation and pain relief.

You Have Questions...We Have Answers!
Q: What Can I Expect On The First Visit?
A: During your initial visit with Dr. Williamson there will be a detailed history taken along with a consultation. From there he'll determine if you're a case he can accept or not. Sometimes a referral is needed to another healthcare practitioner. From there he will recommend an exam & potentially further testing. If he feels he can help you, he will tell you. If he doesn't feel as though he can help you he will find an appropriate provider who can.
Q: Does Insurance Pay For Treatment?
A: Generally speaking, most insurance does not pay for functional medicine type services. They will pay for your drugs and medications but won't pay to dig, find, & fix the root cause of the neuropathy.
Q: Will I Have To Keep Coming Back?
A: Dr. Williamson will determine that early on in your case. He may put you on a protocol consisting of supplementation / dietary changes which may not need a lot of follow up visits. Other times, if the peripheral neuropathy is more mechanical in nature, it may require more frequent visits.
Q: Will I Have To Swallow A Lot Of Pills?
A: There may be a few products to take but it won't be overwhelming / confusing.
Q: Is Your Program Safe?
A: Absolutely. Our programs are safe and natural.
